The objective of MakwaMigizi Creations Inc. is to provide a high quality handcrafted native american product and reliable service to our customers. We are pleased to have the opportunity to share with you, our customers, a part of our rich Native American culture in art form. Every piece handcrafted is created with care to preserve the memory of those who taught us. In each piece comes the respect and gratitude of those who came before us.
MakwaMigizi Creations Inc. was founded to ensure and promote Native American Arts and Crafts and Native American craftsman. This company was formed from strong cultural ideals, the love of crafting, and is an Ojibwe owned company. Proud member of the Ebb and Flow First Nations Ojibwe. Chi-Miigwech (Thank you!)
MakwaMigizi Creations, Inc. came to be in April of 2004, founded by Barclay and Awanii Houle. MakwaMigizi in Ojibwemong means Bear/ Eagle. Both Barclay and Awanii spent their early years out on the Western Prairies. Barclay in central Manitoba Canada and Awanii in Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota. Many of the pieces they create come from the influence and teachings of those early years.
Barclay and Awanii are both Northern Traditional Dancers and enjoy dancing and meeting new friends and old friends on the powwow trail.
Barclay is a trained firefighter and currently is a member of the Unadilla Fire Department.
Awanii is a Human Resource Manager and Office Manager for a growing firm that is rapidly becoming nationwide.
Barclay and Awanii were married in a traditional Ojibwe Ceremony on the Ebb & Flow Reserve in Manitoba Canada and have four beautiful children and two wonderful grandsons, Nathan & Dante!
Currently they reside in Unadilla, a small village on the outskirts of the Catskills in New York.
